Everyone has opinions. Some tend to keep them to themselves, while others share their views with the world. When people share their opinions, someone is bound to disagree. It seems that too often people are trying to silence the people that oppose their own views.
Why are we so offended? It seems like every week there are people complaining on social media about something that they find offensive. Is it that we are growing up in an age where everyone is overly offended or are people more vocal due to social media?
With the 15th anniversary of 9/11 a couple days away, a mattress store decided on advertising their “Twin Towers Sale.” Located in San Antonio, TX, Miracle Mattress developed a commercial to promote this sale. Within the commercial two of their employees crash into two towers of mattresses. Cherise Bonanno, the owner, then turned toward the camera and states, “We will never forget.”
We all have that one friend on Facebook. You know the type I am talking about. The friend that shares anything and everything they see online. Actually, that friend may even be you.
After seeing this on multiple occasions, I started to wonder why don’t people research before sharing? Is it ignorance or laziness or both? We have so much information available at our fingertips, yet it seems so many fail to utilize it. It takes almost no time to research if an article is fact or not before sharing on social media. Yet, so many people fail to do so.
To see a professional athlete utilizing his or her spotlight to take a stand against injustice is something that I will always get behind. However, I struggle when it comes to the situation with Colin Kaepernick. I do believe his intentions are good, but the execution was flawed. Continue reading
